FMP Group (Australia) Pty Ltd is Australia’s largest automotive friction material manufacturer. The company’s manufacturing plant in Ballarat, Victoria, manufactures a large range of disc brake pads. It has gained a reputation for manufacturing, marketing and distributing quality products with high levels of customer service.

The company specialises in providing a full range of friction material for passenger and commercial vehicles, along with industrial applications. The past affiliation with one of the world’s largest aerospace companies, Honeywell Inc (USA) gave the company access to the latest technology and techniques.

This technology base, together with its strong global links, gives FMP Group the ability to tailor friction solutions for all customer’s applications. Access to world class technology has been one of the keys to the company’s success.

A 70-year-old company with rich history in saving lives!

1955

FMP Group, as the company is now known, originated in 1955. The company was established by the BBA Group in the UK and was known as Mintex Ltd. The plant produced brake linings for variety vehicles in Australia.

1963

The Bendix Corporation of the USA acquired 51% ownership of Mintex Ltd. and created the joint venture company, known as Bendix Mintex Pty. Ltd.

1965

Bendix Mintex commenced manufacturing disc brake pads and won its first OE contract to GM Holden.

1967

Bendix Mintex became the sole supplier of brake linings to GMH.

1970s

Export volumes increased with expansion into Singapore, Malaysia and Thailand.

1980

Bendix Mintex invested heavily in advanced manufacturing facilities and became Australia’s largest friction material manufacturer.

1996

First OEM supply to Proton Malaysia

1998

Established manufacturing plant in Rayong, Thailand

1999

Commenced OES supply to Perodua Malaysia

2002

The company changed its name to FMP Group (Australia) Pty Limited, standing for Friction Materials Pacific, to more accurately reflect the product produced.

2003

FMP invested heavily in developing ceramic products which were considerably more environmentally friendly.

2015

Being the First company in Malaysia to receive accreditation of MS1164 from SIRIM

2016

The factory in Malaysia was closed and was integrated into the expanded FMP Thailand facility, with capacity of producing 13 millions pieces of brake pads PER year.

2024

Today, FMP products cover over 95% of vehicles in Malaysia, supported by a network of 1,000 distributors, wholesalers, spare parts shops and workshops providing services to car owners and fleet customers nationwide.
